SEATTLE SEAHAWKS MAKE ANOTHER TRADE, ADD EDGE DEPTH IN DEAL WITH JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

The Seattle Seahawks have made yet another trade on the day before their initial 53-man roster cuts are due to be submitted to the league office. According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network the team is trading a late-round draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for edge rusher Trevis Gipson.

Gipson played his college football at Tulsa and then was taken in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears. He played 40 games with the Bears over the next three seasons, totaling 10 sacks and 21 quarterback hits. Last year he appeared in eight games with the Tennessee Titans but did not start once and saw limited playing time. The Jaguars signed Gipson back in March at the start of free agency.

Seattle needs this extra depth on the edge thanks to another disastrous injury for starter Uchenna Nwosu in Saturday night's preseason win over the Cleveland Browns. Early in the game star guard Wyatt Teller got flagged for a chop-block at Nwosu's knees, which knocked him out of the game. Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters afterwards that Nwosu would get evaluated on Sunday, but we haven't had an update since.

This trade is evidence Nwosu is likely to miss at least several weeks with whatever his knee injury turns out to be. The timing is unfortunate, as this deal might not have been necessary if the Seahawks hadn't already sent Darrell Taylor to the Chicago Bears a couple days ago in exchange for a sixth-round 2025 draft pick.
