VIKINGS RELEASE VETERAN QUARTERBACK
When Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy suffered what turned out to be a season-ending injury during his first preseason game, the Vikings signed veteran quarterback Matt Corral to add a little bit of depth to the position. But it sounds like his time with the team has already come to an end.
According to a report from league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings have decided to release Matt Corral in their first wave of cuts on Monday afternoon.
“The #Vikings made their first wave of cuts, including waiving QB Matt Corral and releasing veteran CB A.J. Green III,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Corral got a chance to play for the Vikings during the preseason this month, completing 4 of 6 passes for 13 yards in preseason play, but it seems that his performance during the preseason games and during practice were not enough to earn a roster spot.
With Corral now off the roster, the Vikings currently have three quarterbacks with starter Sam Darnold leading the way, veteran backup Nick Mullens behind him, and second-year player Jaren Hall rounding out the roster.
